Answer: we need to rub the matchstick to make it catch fire because the side of the matchstick box is a rough surface where there is high friction so when the head of matchstick which made up of oxidizing agent such as potassium chlorate, mixed with sulfur, fillers and glass powder is rubbed from the rough surface catches fire
