Why is DNA copying an assential part of the process of reproduction

in reproduction the cell do meiosis process to get a haploid cell that fuses with one egg cell from the mother and one sperm cell from the father,

but in the reproduction process the DNA replicate is not necessary.in the metosis process the whole cell is copy in this process the DNA needs to replicate.
