1 ) At first she worked as a suffragist in England. But later she moved to the political party of Indian National Congress and she also participated in the Independence movement of India from the British rule. She was a good follower of Mahatma Gandhi.

2 ) She was a poet, feminist, political activist and the Indian national congress first Indian woman president. She was also known as "the nightingale of India." She was drawn to Mahatma Gandhi's non-cooperation movement and India's Congress movement after her experience in the suffragist campaign.
