Answer:
Social Institution: According to Spencer and Parsons, it is a cluster of specialized normative expectations and consists of all the structural components of a society through which the main concerns and activities are organized and social needs are met.
In some ways, a social institution can be seen as a sort of 'super-custom', a set of mores, folkways, and patterns of behavior that deals with major social interests, like, law, church, family etc.
There is no proper fixed definition of social institution. To get an idea, you can just simplify the definition given by Herbert Spencer and Talcott Parsons. It is a group of normative expectations which fulfills a social requirement. This is a kind of over simplification, but I just trying to give you an idea.
A simple textbook definition of marriage is; Marriage can be defined as a socially acknowledged and approved sexual union between two adult individuals.
I won't get into much detail and critique the definitions and explanations.
