Elephant, (family Elephantidae), largest living land animal, characterized by its long trunk (elongated upper lip and nose), columnar legs, and huge head with temporal glands and wide, flat ears. Elephants are grayish to brown in colour, and their body hair is sparse and coarse.
Describe the structure of trunk of elephant-
An elephant's trunk is basically two parts. It is an upper lip. And it is also an extended part of the nose which has two nostrils (like all mamals). Its trunk itsself has 40,000 muscles while the humn body has only around 640! An elephant might use the trunk for protection against enemies like tigers, to have a bath or to uproot trees or grass for food. They also use it to bring the food to the mouth using the trunk. The trunk is an important part of their body.
