The pickles that you eat was made using osmosis. Salt is added so as to increase the concentration. When microbes enter this pickle,they die due to excessive loss of water. Same is with sugary treats such as jams. RO or reverse osmosis is commonly used to purify water and is it is used in water purifying gadgets.
