Sedimentation is known as the phase of separation of the solids from the liquid. All the solids settle down on a beaker's rim, and a thin coating of liquid is collected on top. Decantation is known as the separation process which separates two immiscible liquids.

Explanation:

  • A common definition of this is oil and vinegar decanting. If the two substances are permitted to stabilize in a combination, the oil can sit on top of the water such that the two elements can be isolated. Decanting can also be used to distinguish kerosene and gas. The two decanting methods can be mixed.
  • Sedimentation continues on from decantation. Decantation is the mechanism by which sedimented material is removed by dumping it very gradually into the other bath, without disrupting the deposited sediments at the bottom of the pipe. Sedimentation is the settlement process of heavy insoluble impurities.
