Well in Ancient Rome there were 3 types (mostly two) of people. That includes: Rich people, Government officials which fit in the rich people category and Poor people. Rich people mostly went to concerts or theater shows/plays after work or in their free time. Though why gladiator games were free is because poor people mostly went there. If rich people went to gladiator games it would be a protected/sealed booth at the top of the Colosseum. More or less gladiator games were for poor people.
