This is example of industrial use of hydrogenation reaction,

Certain Vegetable oils contains double bonds in thier compound (C=O)

Thus these olis are hydrogenated to make them Saturated carbon compound.

  • Hydrogenation is nothing but addition of hydrogen in the unsaturated Hydrocarbons

Eq: vegetable oil (unsaturated) + H2 ----------> vanaspati ghee / dalda (Saturated)

  • Here the catalyst are Ni/Pd heat(250°C)

This is done to preserve the oil for a long time.

Answer:

While Dalda is an ester of saturated fatty acids, oils are esters of unsaturated fatty acids. By catalytic hydrogenation, or reduction, the former is changed into the latter.

Explanation:

  • In South Asia, the brand of vegetable oil known as Dalda is widely used for cooking.
  • The soft oils required to make Dalda ghee are hardened through the process of hydrogenation.
  • Trans fatty acids are often absent from vegetable oils, but they can be created during the hydrogenation process.
  • Hydrogenated vegetable fat is what makes vegetable shortening (vegetable oil that comes in a solid block and is usually white in colour).
  • According to what we know, Crisco and Dalda are both brands that are sold in larger supermarkets in India.
