1) Different social groups participated in Civil Disobedience movement. In the countryside, rich peasant communities like the Patidars of Gujarat, producers of commercial crops etc, became enthusiastic supporters of the movement

2) They fought for Swaraj which was a struggle against high revenues. Even business classes, women participated in this movement.

3) But, there was a limitation in this movement. Not all social groups participated in the concept of Swaraj.

4) One such group was the nations untouchables who had begun to call themselves dalit or oppressed. For long, the Congress had ignored the dalits, for fear of offending the sanatanis, the conservative high caste Hindus.
