Dalton atomic theory said that atoms of the same element has same masses and atoms of different element has different masses..Is it drawback than how?

Dalton stated that all atoms of the same element are same in all respects but modern atomic theory states the existence of so called isotopes.
for example : isotope of hydrogen (which has atomic number 1 and atomic mass 1) is called Deuterium which has atomic number 1 but has atomic weight 2.
