Daltonism:

Daltonism is another name of protanopia, a color blindness where the eyes are insensitive to red color which confuses colors such as greens, reds, and yellows.

Cause of daltonism:

  • The 23rd chromosome of a baby determines the sex of the baby, it also affects the color blindness.
  • A girl has two x chromosomes and a boy has x and y chromosomes. The affected gene only transfers through x chromosome.
  • When a girl is color blind, both the x chromosomes must be faulted. When a boy is color blind, only x chromosome must be faulted. Thus, this condition is more common in men than women.
  • Thus, a girl can be carrier most of the times and a boy can be color blind right away.
