Given :-

Ratio in which the sweets were shared = 4 : 3 : 5

Number of sweets Dan got = 48 sweets

Required to find :-

Total number of sweets

Solution :-

Ratio in which the sweets were shared = 4 : 3 : 5

Number of sweets Dan got = 48 sweets

We need to

find the total number of sweets

So,

Consider the given ratio = 4 : 3 : 5

However

Let the Dan share be 4x

Gordon share be 3x

Malachy share be 5x

But it is given that ;

Dan received 48 sweets

So using this let's find the value of x

Hence,

4x = 48

x = 48/4

x = 12 sweets

So,

No. of sweets received by Gordon = 3x = 3 ( 12 ) = 36 sweets

Similarly,

No. of sweets received by Malachy = 5x = 5 ( 12 ) = 60 sweets

This implies,

Total number of sweets = Number of sweets received by Dan + Gordon + Malachy

=> Total no. of sweets = 48 + 36 + 60

=> Total no. of sweets = 144 sweets
