Answer:

60 cakes does Dan need to make in total number of cakes.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given information,

Dan has made 18 cakes.  That is 3/15 of the total he needs to make.

We have to find out the number of cakes required to make the total cakes.

Let, x be the total number of cakes.

So we can write given information as,

 \frac{3}{12}  \times x = 18

x = 18 \times  \frac{12}{3}

By dividing 18 by 3 we get

x = 6 \times 12

By multplying 6 by 12 we get

x = 72

So,

Total number of cakes made by the Dan is 72.

By substracting the total number of cakes from number of cakes made by Dan we can find out the number of cakes required to complete the total number of cakes.

Number of cakes required

 = total \: number \: of \: cakes - number \: of \: cakes \: made

Number of cakes required =

72 - 12

Number of cakes required

 = 60

Hence,

60 cakes does Dan need to make in total number of cakes.
