This is because red light is SCATTERED LEAST by the air molecules. Also, according to Rayleigh's law of scattering, the effect of scattering is inversely related to the fourth power of the wavelength of a colour.

Red colour has longest wavelength, it can be seen easily from long distance that is why red colour is used for danger signals and in light house .....
