Daniel has $160 more than Alex. After giving 1/10 of his money to Alex, he now has 3 times as much money than Alex. How much money do they have in the first place?

Solution:
       Let the Number of Dollars Alex has  = x
       therefore , number of Dollars Daniel has = y
                                                                 y = x+160          ........... (1)
               According to question ,
                             x+160 - 1/10(x+160) = 3 (x+1/10(x+160))
                             x+160 (1-1/10) = 3x +3/10(x+160)
                             x+160+(10-1)/10 = 3x +3x/10 +3*160 /10
                             x+160+9/10 = 3x +3x/10 +48
                             160+9/10 - 48 = 3x +3x/10 -x
                             112 +9/10 = 2x+3x/10
                             (112*10 + 9)/10 = (2x*10 +3x)/10
                               1120+9 = 20x +3x
                               1129 = 23x
                                 x= 1129/23
                                 x=49.08
                       substitute x in first, we get
                                y=49.08+160
                                 =209.08
Neglecting .08 $
Therefore Alex has 49 $ and Daniel has 209$

Hope this helps You!!!

Answer:

Daniel: $200, Alex $40

Step-by-step explanation:

Let Alex has X dollars

Let Daniel has Y dollars

Dianel has $160 more than Alex

Y-X=160 equation (1)

Y= X+160

0.1Y= 0.1X+16

*0.1Y is 10% of what daniel gives to alex

So If daniel give 10% of what he has to alex, then alex total amount will be X+0.1X+16

=1.1X+16

We know that after giving 10% to Alex, Daniel has 3 times more money,

Then, we get

0.9y= 3(1.1x+16)

0.9y-3.3x=48 (equation 2)

* 0.9y because daniel has give 10% to alex.

So we are ready to solve using

Equation 1 and 2

Y-X=160 (1)

0.9y-3.3x=48(2)

(1)x9= 9y-9x= 1440

(2)x10=9y-33x=480

24x=960

X=40

Y=40+160=200

Check

200-20=180

40+20=60
