Daniel is planning to go camping, but he lost the pole that supports the middle point of the tent. A cross-section of the tent is shown below. The base of the tent measures 80 inches wide, and the length from the top point of the tent to the corners of the base is 85 inches.

What is the length of the pole that Daniel needs to support the middle of the tent?

length of base = 80 inches

length of half base = 40 inches

now in the figure ,the required pole is perpendicular to the base so applying Pythagoras theorem in either small triangles,.

 {40}^{2} + {x}^{2} = {85}^{2} \\ {x}^{2} + 1600 = 7225 \\ {x}^{2} = 5625 \\ x = 75

the length of the required pole is 75 inches.
