Answer:

12 cards

and

8 cards

❤All the best❤

Step-by-step explanation:

Total cards 20

Some cards cost is 0.25$

some cards cost is 0.15 $

total Spent money: 4.20$

Need to find

How many cards of each type did he buy??

Solution:

Let cards be x and y

then

x+y = 20 (1)

0.25x + .15y = 4.2

25x/100 + 15/100 = 420/100

multiply both side with 100

(25x/100 × 100 )+ (15y/100 × 100) = 420/100 × 100

25x + 15y = 420

divide both sides with 5

5x + 3y = 84 (2)

Now we have

x+y = 20 (1)

5x + 3y = 84 (2)

Now multiply (1) with 3

Now we get

3x + 3y = 60

Well subtract it from (2)

5x+3y-3x-3y = 84 - 60

Canceling common terms

now we get

2x = 24

x = 24/2

x = 12

Now subtract x value from total cards:

y = 20 - 12 = 8

Well

x = 12

y = 8

Verify

He bought 12 cards and 8 cards

12 cards cost: 0.25 × 12 = 3 $

8 cards cost : 0.15 × 8 = 1.2$

Total cost : 3 + 1.2 = 4.20 as mentioned in question

Hence it is confirmed that

he bought 12 cards which cost 0.25$ each

and 8 cards which cost 0.15$ each

All the best
