Dark reaction of photosynthesis does not need light. Do plants undergo dark reaction at night? Explain.
Answers
Answer:
Dark reaction does not totally comprehends that it happens in the absence of light i.e., at night. But, it is the reaction occurring at thr same time with light reaction. It is a chemical process occurring independent of light. This reaction is completely based on enzymes.
There are two types of photosynthesis. One is light dependent while the other one is independent of light.
During the day, the plants use up the Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide and Water to make Glucose in the form of ATP and NADPH through the use of green pigment called chlorophyll.
During the absence of sunlight, the plants make use of these ATP(s) and NADPH for the fixation of Carbon Dixoxide into Carbohydrates. This is called as Dark Reaction.
So, the answer is YES, the plants undergo dark reaction at night.
