Darren had 5 times as much money as Bobbi. Darren spent $145 of his money to buy a birthday gift for his grandma while Bobbi was awarded $55 for winning a competition. In the end, they had the same amount of money. How much did they have altogether at first?

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total money with Bobbi = x

Therefore, total money with Darren = 5x

Now, money spent by Darren = ₹145

Therefore, total money with Darren = 5x-145____(1)

Now, money won by Bobbi = ₹55

Therefore, total money with Bobbi = x+55____(2)

So, by equating (1) and (2)

5x-145=x+55

5x-x=55+145

4x=200

x=50

Money with Bobbi=x

= ₹50

Money with Darren=5x

=5*50

=₹250

Total money altogether=₹50+₹250

=₹300
