Letter to her brother in Mumbai

Dear brother,
Das said that it is his responsibility to catch the snake. If he is to be blamed for anything because of the presence of a snake in the garden, it is because of the fact that the garden is overgrown and the servant has not maintained it. Although Das suggests that he previously asked for a mower, everyone in the story still holds Das responsible for catching the snake.
Das is also threatened that if he does not find the snake he will be thrown out. If anything, it seems that slaves can be lazy. There are many ways to cut grass without a mower, yet Das's focus is only on getting the mower, not really working hard on himself and cutting the grass another way. As in the story, the family goes in search of a snake. It is also worth noting that Das's efforts to find the snake are half-hearted. He doesn't really put much effort into his tasks. Which would again suggest that slaves can be lazy.
Your sister,
