Mukherjee died on 31 August 2020 , aged 84 , which was confirmed by his son Abhijit Mukherjee via twitter . His came after the attending hospital confirm that his healthhealth had deteriorated earlier that day standing that he had been in septic shock since a day earlier which was caused by his lung infection .
