Given:

The amount of the lottery = £9900

David & Dan share the lottery in the ratio 3 : 2

David shares his part with himself, wife & their son in the ratio 4 : 4 : 2

To find:

How much more does his wife gets over their son

Solution:

∵ the ratio of the share is 3:2 between David and Dan

So, The fraction of the share that David will get from the total win is \frac{3}{3+2} = \frac{3}{5}

∴ David's share from the lottery win will be,

= \frac{3}{5} \:\times\:9900

= 3\:\times\: 1980

= £ \:5940

We know that David divides his share between himself, his wife & their son in the ratio 4 : 4 : 2

Therefore,

David's share from his part = \frac{4}{4+4+2}\times5940 = \frac{4}{10}\times5940 = 2376

His wife's share from his part = \frac{4}{4+4+2} \times5940= \frac{4}{10}\times5940 = 2376

Their son's share from his part = \frac{2}{4+4+2} \times5940= \frac{2}{10}\times5940 = 1188

Now,

The difference between his wife's share and their son's share from his part is given by,

= £ 2376 - £ 1188

= £ 1188

Thus, his wife gets £ 1188 more over their son.
