David and john started driving towards each other at 11 am and met each other at 2:30 pm on the same day. David and john started from different cities which are 420 miles apart. If davids average speed is 10 miles/hr lower than johns, what is the speed of at which john was driving, in miles/hr?

Answer:

420 = T * (V + (V - 10)) = 3.5 * (2 V - 10)    using time traveled and speeds

120 = 2 V - 10

V = 65    John's speed and David's speed is 55

Check:    3.5 * 65 + 3.5 * 55 = 420
