2(x+3) = 3x+3
2x+6 = 3x+ 3
x= 3
3x = 9

after 3 years , joseph's age = x + 3

& David's age = 3x + 3

3x + 3 = 2 ( x + 3 )

3x + 3 = 2x + 6

x = 3

Present age of David = 3 x 3 = 9 yrs
