Davindra, who is 15 years old, is one year older than twice the age of her younger sister, Preetha. How do you find the age of Preetha and justify each step?

Let Preetha be x years old

Then, acc. to the question, 2x + 1 = 15

as Davindra is one year older than twice the age of her younger sister, that is 1+2x = Davindra's age, that is, 15 years.

Now, 2x+1 = 15

2x = 15-1 (positive 1on the LHS would become negative when it moves to the RHS)

=> 2x = 14

=> x = 14/2 (as 2 multiplies x on the LHS and when it comes to the RHS, it will be dividing the values there)

=> x = 7

So, Preetha's age is 7 years.

Hope it could help!!!
