The given statement is true.

The three species of birds, which were found affected by the application of DDT are bald eagles, peregrine falcons, and ospreys. It was found that the eggshell of these birds got thinned due to the administration of chlorinated hydrocarbon pesticides, like DDT.

The population of the mentioned birds got declined due to the introduction of DDT that thinned their eggs, thus, killing their embryos. The pesticide was banned in the United States in 1972 due to its accumulation in food webs and its persistence in river sediment and soil.

DDT was a pesticide which had once become very famous for its immense ability to kill all kinds of unwanted insects.

However, over time it was seen that the eggs of the birds near this chemical were getting thinner shells, and thus we're no longer hatching.

This led to extinction of many bird species.
