Dear Editor,
My name is Tsering and I live in Likir near Ladakh, in the Himalayas. Our
home is a guest house for tourists and travellers who visit our mountains from all over the world. We grow wheat and mustard in our fields, milk cows and yaks, and dry cow dung to burn in our stove.

We have a visitor staying with us right now. My grandmother cooks meals for all of us and our visitor eats with us. When this visitor first came to our house, my mother told him that we never point the soles of our feet in the direction of the stove because it has to be shown respect as it helps us survive through the freezing winters. Yet, this visitor forgets each time he sits in the room and ends up showing his feet to the stove. My family and I are very upset. What should I do?
