Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g plastic bottles and much more) in the Earth's environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans. Plastics are inexpensive and durable, and as a result levels of plastic production by humans are high.

Degradable plastic bags (less than 35 microns in thickness) are banned in the ACT.They cause similar environmental harm to standard plastic bags which is why they are also banned.

Plastic affects human health.

Toxic chemicals leach out of plastic and are found in the blood and tissue of nearly all of us. Exposure to them is linked to cancers, birth defects, impaired immunity, endocrine disruption and other ailments.
