Compromising the environment in the name of development

Good morning everyone present here. I am going to express my views on ‘compromising the environment in the name of development’; and I am going to speak in favor of the motion.

There is no denying the fact we have done remarkable development in many sectors. India is the fastest progressing country in the world. According to Wikipedia the economy of India is the sixth-largest economy in the world measured by nominal GDP. The country is categorized as a newly industrialized country, one of the G-20 major economies. India is an important member of BRICS and a developing economy with an average growth rate of approximately 7% over the last two decades. India's economy became the world's fastest growing major economy in the last quarter of 2014, surpassing the People's Republic of China.

However, this developmental progress has taken its own toll. The environment has been butchered to feed the monster if development. The canker of industrialization has converted the once heaven like earth into hell. The sylvan beauty of the blue orb has been replaced by factories and mills. The skyline that once was dominated by tall pines is an ugly sight of stacks spewing toxic fumes!

The clear rills and brooks that were picnic spots have been converted into drainage channels, carrying effluents to the river, which has become a bigger channel carrying the muck to the sea! The entire world is losing its beauty and purity. The mankind a silent witness to this ugly transformation is waiting for some angel to come down and do the cleaning, preserving, and pollution managing!

According to a study India has lost 243,447 sq. km forest cover in eight decades. According to WHO, 13 out of 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India. The quality of life is constantly falling. Food adulteration, toxification of the environment, etc. are all the fallout of so called national development. The bitter truth is, we have definitely compromised our environmental purity and beauty in the name of development.

The only solution to the problem is wise, responsible and sustainable development. It is the collective duty of all Indians. We must pursue development, but not at the cost of environment. Let’s make environment our first priority and find out environment friendly ways of development.

Thanks for your query.

The needs of humans are increasing day by day so that need can be fulfilling with the development. The needs of society can be done by the development.

The future needs are not compromised at time of development. These needs are beneficial and important for environment.

Some natural resources are very important for the making of electricity like wind and water. The environment may not harm with the use of wind and water.
