positive reply-- Yes of course Young people are supposed to have a chance to make their own decisions and to live its consequences even if it means failure because life is not about passing or failing its about learning from our mistakes and try not to repeat them. After all we are humans and all humans make mistakes

negative reply--Not all the time!! Children need to be able to make their own decisions! The parents don't know everything about their child! The parent cant expect to be able to control every aspect of the child's life! What if you make a decision that would affect the child's future, without even asking what the child wanted in life! The parent should put in input, not make the decision.
