Good morning everyone present here. Distinguished guests, learned jury, and my dear fellow students, I stand here to expatiate on ‘Women should work in kitchens and men in offices’, and I am going to speak against the motion. Well, the very motion sounds discriminatory to me. It smacks of male chauvinism. Is it not hypocrisy of the male-dominated society that we are still pondering over what to allow women and what not to allow them?
I am reminded of Gloria Steinem’s words: “A gender-equal society would be one where the word 'gender' does not exist: where everyone can be themselves.” Not letting someone do what she wants to do is limiting her freedom. If still there are limitations, I just wonder what is this so much ado about gender-equality campaigns in our society?
I strongly believe women are perfectly suitable for any sport, adventure, exploration, and field. Women have already proved their mettle all spheres. Space exploration, research and development, science and medicine, politics, financing, management, education, and whatnot, women have set higher standards than man. I strongly believe the time has come for women to take over every field that has been dominated by man till now. The men should now start in kitchen and women in offices.
The world has been dominated and led by men so far. Under their reign, the world has gone through many wars. Women were never given the freedom to have their say in the administration of national and international affairs! The question arises: would the world have been a better place, if there were more women leaders in the past? The women by nature are calmer and more staid than men. They would have found peaceful solutions to the conflicts that caused so many wars. There would not have been world wars, if there were more women leaders in Europe, America, and Russia. Women deserve a chance. Man has had his! He has failed miserably. Let’s give the women the turn to run the world. They will keep the world as spic and span as they keep their homes with the caring industry and motherly responsibility. Under their care the world will become one big family, devoid of wars, crimes, greed, and avarice. Let’s empower women for a better, brighter, and more peaceful world.
I strongly believe, women can do, be, and have anything that they wish. Let’s not impede them with our self-righteous narrow-mindedness.

A: It is definitely very good if women remain at home and men work in offices. It
was practised in good olden days and everyone lived happily and peacefully. B: I love to agree with your example. But that belongs to past. We live in the present. The times have changed a lot. Change we must along with the time!
C: Women confining to homes is a good proposition. That is the place where a
woman's abilities are most useful. Work at offices men can take care of!
D I'm really sorry to disagree with you! Women, no doubt, are best home makers. But that doesn't mean they cannot do other things. Don't we have examples in thousands that prove women's abilities ! What about Sakuntala Devi, Sunitha Williams: Kalpana Chawla: Indra Nooyi; Indira Gandhi and many more?
E: Hard working husband and school going students need personalised service at home. So it would always be good for women to stay at home. A happy father and satisfied children make a home a pleasant place to live in! F: That is a fine idea. But what about the feelings of a woman. Particulary when
she has an urge for expression of her talents! You see from one angle. Let's try
to be comprehensive.
G: Women have tremendous patience. She can attend to work at home and yet be a office goer. Allowing women to work outside is advantageous in many ways. Inconveniences, if any, can be sorted out somehow. Father and children should learn to enjoy sharing work at home. Then everyone will be happy.
H: It is a balanced opinion. What I would like to put in is that every woman has her own choice. Some women may prefer to stay at home on their own. Others may love to take up a job outside. Hence what I feel to be the best option is to give freedor women be a home maker or a job seeker !
