Answer:

Population: a boon.

For:

-greater human resource in terms of cheap manpower for a developing country like India

-a bigger social force in terms of more and more people going in for government services

-a growing population demands more growth from the country and that can only mean increased attention to crucial areas like education and employment

-a larger and varied pool of skills and talents on offer

-a greater attraction for foreign companies and countries to invest in this huge market

Against:

-increased pressure on already depleting resources

-social welfare programmes will be tougher to implement because of such a huge population, the resources would not be distributed equally

-unequal income distribution

-sanitation issues, public hygiene and the deplorable living conditions of the poor bear testimony to the problems that fester when a country has a large population

-a large population under the age of twenty-five would put undue pressure on the education system of the country, leading to an educated youth without any adequate employment opportunities to absorb them into the professional sectors and use their skills
