DEBATE-HOMEWORK SHOULD BE ABOLISHED

Good morning, everyone. Today, I, shubham, am here to debate against the motion of ‘Homework should be abolished’. All of us want to score good marks. And when asked whether they would study at home a bit, then they’ll say no.

The children don’t want to do so. They would rather prefer to play or watch television rather than completing their homework and doing some self study. And most of the times this happens that instead of the children their parents compete the homework. Then what is the use of the homework. The teacher gives the homework so that in some way the child is able to revise the things taught in the class.

I don’t suggest that children get loads of homework so that it becomes a burden for them. But a little bit will help the children tremendously. A middle way of everything is best.
Thank you

Hii, it is debate on Topic : Homework should be abolished

Homework should be abolished

Homework, or a homework assignment, is a set of tasks assigned to students by their teachers to be completed outside the class. Common homework assignments may include required reading, a writing or typing project, mathematical exercises to be completed, information to be reviewed before a test, or other skills to be practiced.

The basic objectives of assigning homework to students are the same as schooling in general: to increase the knowledge and improve the abilities and skills of the students, to prepare them for upcoming (or complex or difficult) lessons, to extend what they know by having them apply it to new situations, or to integrate their abilities by applying different skills to a single task. Homework also provides an opportunity for parents to participate in their children's education. Homework is designed to reinforce what students have already learned.

Teachers have many purposes for assigning homework including:

  1. practice,
  2. preparation,
  3. participation,
  4. personal development,
  5. parent–child relations,
  6. parent–teacher communications,
  7. peer interactions,
  8. policy,
  9. public relations, and
  10. punishment.

Last but not the least. Some examples of countries giving homework:

United Kingdom:

British students get more homework than many other countries in Europe. The weekly average for the subject is 5 hours. The main distinction for UK homework is the social gap, with middle-class teenagers getting a disproportionate amount of homework compared to Asia and Europe.

Spain:

In 2012, a report by the OECD showed that Spanish children spend 6.4 hours a week on homework. This prompted the CEAPA, representing 12,000 parent associations to call for a homework strike.

At last I would like to say that Homework should not be abolished. Because it is necessary to do some assignment at home also. If students will not be given homework, they will spend their empty time in playing video games, watching TV, etc. instead of studying. Studying in one of the essential routine of our life. So, homework should not be abolished.
