As the daughter of an army officer, the debate on nationalism is a no brainier for me. The armed forces are nationalist to the core. They give their lives for the nation. And we their children are no less nationalistic. Thus the debate on nationalism by some political parties is defined by their interests in keeping the leftist and vote bank population happy. Considering the communist parties of India were chanting Long Live Mao when our soldiers were being massacred by the Chinese, one can’t really consider them nationalists. If anything they wanted India to be broken up into pieces. Theirs is a agenda of destruction and mayhem as Mao propounded with his atrocious programs — The Great Leap Forward– where peasants had to melt all their iron pots/pans and utensils to make steel. Millions died of starvation. Then the Cultural Revolution destroyed the life of a whole generation.
