Deborah Tannen, a professor of linguistics, studied forms of social interaction in American culture. She suggested Americans live in an argument culture where the dominant forms of social interaction are conflict and competition. The argument culture states that members of the American culture have conflicting ideas, and competition leads them to want to prove their ideas are best. If you could develop your own culture, which dominating form of social interaction would you choose ? Why?

Argument

Explanation:

Their is a belief that best ideas come out of debates. Jeff Bezos famously said that you must clash ideas head to head violently and that is how you will find out the best answers.

USA has done great as a country in terms of economic growth because a culture of argument does not allow for complacency.

There is continous struggle to win and to prove that your way of solving problems is the best alternative. This makes sure that the people stay sharp and helps deal with complacency which stops progress.
