There is a one in four chance that the missing card is a spade. In that event, the chances of drawing a spade will be 12/51.

If the missing card is not a spade, the chances of drawing a spade will be 13/51.

So our final sum is (1/4 x 12/51) + (3/4 x 13/51) which is 12/204 + 39/204 which is 51/204 which is 1/4.

Answer:

1 / 4

Step-by-step explanation:

n(S)  = 52

A = event of getting spade

n(A)  = 13

P(A)  = n(A) / n(S)

        = 13 /52

       = 1 / 4
