Explanation:

Decomposition reaction--

"The reaction in which a single bigger compound decomposes to give two or more smaller molecules."

It is of three types--

  1. Thermal Decomposition Reaction
  2. Electrolytic Decomposition Reaction
  3. Photolytic Decomposition Reaction

The examples of each types are as follows--

Thermal--

  • 2Fe(OH)3--------->Fe2O3 + 3H2O
  • CaCO3(s)--------->CaO(s) + CO2(g)

Electrolytic--

  • 2H2O(l)----------->2H2(g) + O2(g)
  • 2NaCl ------------>2Na + Cl2

Photolytic--

  • 2H2O2(l)---------->2H2O(l) + O2(g)
  • 2AgBr(s)---------->2Ag(s) + Br2(g)

there are some metals or elements which are less reactive,so to make them active to react we have to supply heat , light or electricity.

for example,to iron requires hest to react with water

Fe+H2O>>>>Fe(OH)3+H2

hope it helps you
