Answer:

• Decrease in the concentration of ozone in the stratosphere isliye cause of the formation of Ozone Hole.

Explanation:

• In the upper atmospheric layer of stratosphere a layer of ozone gas (O3 )is present.

• This layer is crucial for our well being because it reflects back the harmful Ultraviolet radiation of the sun.

• The Ultraviolet rays, particularly UV B radiation are very harmful for life on earth. It causes Snow Blindness, along with other problems like skin cancer, and decrease in photosynthetic capabilities in the plants.

• These rays are reflected by the ozone layer and hence we are protected.

• But during the last four decades due to the use of chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons, and other aerosols used in jet fuels, the stratospheric ozone has been declining rapidly.

• These harmful chemicals leads to a chain reaction in which a single molecule of chlorofluorocarbon can destroy upto millions of ozone molecules.

• This has lead to the destruction of ozone and its thinning which is called as Ozone Hole which is particularly prominent over Artic and Antarctic Circle.
