Deduce an expression for the torque acting on a dipole moment p in the presence of a uniform electric field E. (a) What happens if the field is non-uniform ? (b) What would happen if the external field E is increasing (i) parallel to p and

(a) If an electric dipole is placed in a non-uniform electric field ,there is a net force on the dipole in addition to the torque tending to align with the field.

(b)(i)The net dipole moment will have net force towards the increasing field.

(ii) The net dipole moment will have net force against the increasing field.
