distance traveled is equal to average velocity multiplied by time that means intial velocity plus final velocity divided by 2 multiplied by time

or S=u+v/2*t

but from eqn v=u+at

S=u+(u+at)/2*t

S=(2u+at/2)*t

hence two and two get cancelled and hence

S=ut+1/2at2
