Saying something is easy, and can be done without giving it much thought, but doing something requires time, effort and intent. So, when someone does a good deed, it shows a certain degree of commitment and sincerity that is not necessarily evident through speech. Most people do not practice what they preach, meaning they simply talk, but do not act on their words. Doing something is more challenging than speech and also more memorable.

An example could be you praising your household help for doing a particular task well, versus you doing something for her in return. Obviously, your doing something for her will have a greater impact on her. Even years later, she will remember that you gifted her something, or that you taught her children. She may also remember the words of praise, but the effect of the deed will undoubtedly be much greater.
