In the second case there will be complete dark after performing the experiment. when the white paper is placed in front of a torch there will be less amount of darkness but after applying the oil there will be complete dark shadow.

Explanation:

  • in optics there can be a classification of different objects into three main types. They are the transparent object or substances which allow light to pass through them, the translucent object which allow some part of the light to pass through them and the opaque substance which allows no light to pass through them
  • as a result of this there is stoppage of light by the translucent objects such as paper and oil and hence there is formation of dark on the other side of the light.
