Deepu use sublimation to separate the iodine and sand because iodine is a sublime substance that is, it is converted directly into vapour when it is heating without going into the liquid state. Where as sand is non sublime. Therefore when the mixture is heated iodine will sublime and sand will be left behind separating the both.
