Answer:

Damage to the nigro-strial pathway of neurons lead to Parkinson's disease , also referred to as PARALYSIS AGITANS.

These nigro-strial pathway connects the substantia nigra (of mid-brain ) to the corpus striatum (of basal ganglia).

The nigro-strial pathway uses DOPAMINE as the neurotransmitter.

Damage to this pathway leads to inadequate DOPAMINERGIC neuronal transmission.

ALL IN ALL, JUST REMEMBER THAT THE NEUROTRANSMITTER INVOLVED IS:

"DOPAMINE".

The main problems in Parkinson's disease are as follows:

1. Rigidity

2. Hyper-extension of limbs

3. Akinesia or Bradykinesia

4. Stony expression- less face

5. Festinant gait.

However, changes in dopamine neurons were found also outside the extrapyramidal system, showing that there is a more generalbrain defect than just the loss of substantia nigra dopamine neurons.

\
