The answers of the questions of 'Defence Studies' are as follows :

1. The battle of Jhelumm was fought in 326 BC between Alexander the Great and king Porus of Paurava Kingdom on banks of river Jhelum in Punjab region of Indian subcontinent. King Porus was defeated in the battle. Large area of the Punjab river was absorbed into Alexander's empire and Porus was pin stated as the subordinate ruler.

2. Ambhi paid Alexander to defeat Porus to get the Punjab region. After the battle of Jhelumm, as a consequence Porus was captured and brought to Alexander.

3. Ashoka was a great emperor in the Maurya empire. He was not only a king in his empire, but also an efficient and prominent ruler of the Maurya dynasty. He covered Afghanistan and Bangladesh borders. He also covered the subcontinent parts of Tamil Nadu ,Kerala , Pataliputra and Ujjain.

4. A) Integration is a very good measure to prevent and defend external aggression it enhances the unity of country to face in such tough competition with the others.

  B i) Article 356 states, if a state government is unable to function , then according to the Constitutional provisions, the Union government can take direct control of the state machinery.

5. National power of the nation is dependent upon several factors which are together called the components / elements / determinants of the national power. Frankell calls them as capabilities / capability factor . But, several other scholars prefer to use the name determinants of national power. However, more scholars now prefer to use the name factors / elements / national power because no single factor is determinant of the national power.

6. India ranks the third among most attractive investment destination for technology transactions in the world. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, the union minister of department of science and technology has reiterated that technology in strong priority are of government and it aims to make people science centric. Modern India has had strong focus on science and technology realizing that it is a key element of economical growth.

7. The biggest achievement in research is Mangalyaan. India's special mission to planet Mars was an achievement. India became self sufficient in space technology and launched the satellites from 19 countries. Big achievements in nuclear science, Kundan Kulan nuclear power plant started commercial operation agreement with Australia for storing nuclear energy under a bilateral nuclear cooperative agreement.
