basic salts are salts that are the product of the neutralization of a strong base and a weak acid. ... A basic salt is any salt that hydrolyzes to form a basic solution. Salts are usually formed by the reaction between an acid and a base

Since acids and bases are of 2 types each (Weak and strong), salts are of 3 types namely :

  1. Acidic salt
  2. Basic salt
  3. Neutral salt

Acidic salts are formed when a strong acid reacts with a weak base

Eg : HCl + NH₄OH ------> NH₄Cl + H₂O

NH₄Cl is an acidic salt

Basic salts are formed when a weak acid reacts with a strong base

Eg : CH₃COOH + NaOH ------> CH₃COONa + H₂O

CH₃COONa is a basic salt

Neutral salts ae formed when a strong acid reacts with a strong base

Eg : HCl + NaOH ------> NaCl + H₂O

NaCl is a neutral salt
