It is the top part of the tree which contains the branches growing out of the trunk and it supports the leaves for photosynthesis.  The crown reaches the over all other plants in the forest, including the crowns of other trees. This crown helps the tree to catch  more sunlight than any other crown by pushing its branches and leaves upward and outward, ensuring that as many leaves as possible have access to direct sunlight.
