Answer:

I think the definition of success is a problem in society, and something I deal with everyday. Because I am not mega rich, endowed with awards, a celebrity, surrounded by fawning fans, is it true I am not successful? Are these the external indicators of success and hence the markers of success? For most people, i think that is what they believe.

Successful, to me, is how did this person improve his own lot and the lot of the community. Examples for me: SOcrates, Tesla, Semmelweis, Anne Franks, M Curie….. They improved their own lot with enlightenment and they enlightened the community locally and globally and over huge expanses of time, but they had few and perhaps even non of the trappings of `success,` nor did they care for them. But each of these souls were more successful than all the giga-wealthy combined. ANd they definitely are not fools.

It is not the successful or unsuccessful who are the fools. There is no connection between the popular western interpretation of success and true genius. There is no connection between capital wealth and genius; it is quite irrelevant to genius. Many of the true geniuses in history were rewarded for their success with a premature death. It can be physical or psychological death, but never their soul.

People just don`t know what true genius is so they create false idols.
