an equation must be balance in order to comply with the law of conversation of matter which states that matter is neither created nor destroyed in course of chemical reaction and unbalanced equation would imply that atoms have been created or destroyed.

Example =CaCO3--->CaO+Co2

(in this equation ,the number of atom of Ca,C and O on both sides is the same that is the equation is balanced.)
